Deflating a Tire

After you remove the cap:

Find the metal pin in the middle of the valve.
Gently press on this pin; you will hear a soft sound which means the air is starting to shoot out.
Be careful to hold it steadily so you don’t let out too much air.

Step 1

Find the valve stem, which is found on the tire near the spokes. It looks like a short, black, metal tube sticking out a few inches from the wheel.

This stem is very important because it lets you control the flow of air. First, take off the cap at the end of the valve stem; it comes off easily. This step shows the inside part that, when pushed, lets air out of your tires. Whether it’s a bike or a car, this is the first step to adjust the tire pressure safely and properly.

Step 2

After you find and see the valve stem, the next thing to do is look at the valve cap. Twist this round cap counterclockwise to take it off. Doing this will reveal the metallic center of the valve, which is a hole covering the part known as the pin.

This pin is very important for letting air out; pushing it down will make the airflow out easily. Remember, being gentle with the valve and its parts is important to change the tire’s pressure without breaking anything.

Step 3

Step 6
